Important Information: All audit program participants, both online and in-person, will be required to submit COVID-19 proof of vaccination to attend classes this summer. Additionally, at this time, all participants will also be required to wear a face mask while inside any American University building. Please note: the guidance around such requirements are subject to change as the pandemic continues. You will recieve updated information in a timely manner if needed.
This application is only for the fall 2022 semester, which begins on August 29 and ends on December 17, 2022. The application for spring 2023 will open most likley in November.
Select online courses are still available for auditing. Online availability varies by school (review Auditing Guidelines by School).
In adherence with AU COVID guidelines, all alumni and community members enrolled in a course, whether on campus or online, are required to submit proof of full COVID vaccination, including a booster if eligible, before attending class. The cost to audit a course is $150. This full amount benefits the AU Alumni Association Scholarship.
Please note, space in the audit program is limited. Completed applications will be processed in the order they are received.
With the 2019 launch of Changemakers for a Changing World, the university’s 5-year strategic plan, American University is committed now more than ever to promoting and supporting lifelong learning for its over 135,000 living alumni. For a nominal fee of $150, nondegree-seeking alumni and eligible community members are invited to audit one course per semester; The fee supports the Alumni Association Scholarship, which is awarded each year to one first year student whose parent or grandparent also attended American University.
The Community Audit program is only available to individuals ages 55 and older who live in the 20016, 20015, 20008, and 20007 zip codes. Anyone else wishing to take part in the AU audit program must be an AU alum and qualify for the Alumni Audit program.
